Savory tofu

Do you like eating tofu often? Everyone in my family loves tofu, especially little K, so I’ve been trying to cook it in different ways. Not just being added as part of other ingredients, tofu is really a star in this dish, and it is so delicious with steam rice that you don’t mind at all to serve your guests with this Tofu dish. Here is my recipe:

  • 14oz medium firm Tofu ( I use House Foods brand- the firmness is different with each brand)- patted dry and cut into big cubes.
  • 1 TBS of oil
  • 1/2 TBS of butter
  • 2 big green onion ( chopped)
  • 1 big glove of garlic ( finely chopped)
  • 1/4 C soy sauce
  • 1/4 C mirin
  • 1/4 C sake
  • 1/2 TBS of butter
  • water cress or radish sprout to garnish ( optional)

Heat the oil and 1/2 TBS of butter in a non-stick frying pan, add the dried cubes of Tofu and fry until all sides are golden brown. Toss in garlic and green onion and fry for a minute more or until fragrant. Pour in soy sauce, mirin, and sake, and cook for another 1 or 2 minutes until the liquid is reduced a little bit, make sure to turn on all sides of Tofu. Turn off the heat and add 1/2 TBS of butter. This with make the sauce that glittery look and buttery taste. It’s best to serve with steam rice, don’t forget to drizzle the sauce on top. Yumyum. As writing this, I want to make it again tonight.

Happy cooking everyone!
